U.S. stocks come off a positive May that had anything but a positive ending, with the S&P 500 posting losses in six of the last eight sessions. Stock index futures are pointing to a modestly higher open at the moment, as investors look ahead to a busy week of economic numbers culminating inFriday's May employment report. (CNBC)
The Shanghai Composite rallied Monday after data showed improvementin Chinese factory activity. The official purchasing managers' index ticked up to 50.2 in May, while HSBC's PMI focusing on small and medium businesses edged up to 49.2 from 49.1 in April. (CNBC)

The euro slipped Monday as Greece missed its Sunday deadline to strike a deal with lenders that would provide aid, stoking concern of debt default and a euro zone exit. Greece has a payment due to the International Monetary Fund on Friday. (Reuters)

Intel is expected to announce its acquisition of rival chip maker Altera for $54 per share sometime today, according to reports from CNBC's David Faber and Andrew Ross Sorkin. (CNBC)

Citigroup is likely to shutter its California-based Banamex USA unit, which focuses on transferring money between the U.S. and Mexico and has beenaccused of having weak money-laundering controls, sources tell the Wall Street Journal. (WSJ)

General Electric has begun the sales process for part of its U.S. commercial lending assets, according to sources quoted by Reuters. The company announced in April it would sell most of its finance businesses worth about $40 billion. (Reuters)

The new CEO of Malaysia Airlines on Monday announced restructuring plans that will cut the carrier's workforce by a third. Christoph Mueller said his company is "technically bankrupt." (Reuters)

Men's Wearhouse founder George Zimmer will announce a new website and app called zTailor that seeks to connect customers with on-demand tailors,The New York Times reports. Zimmer was ousted from Men's Wearhouse two years ago. (NYT)

The Senate failed to reauthorize the National Security Agency's controversial program to collect Americans' phone records during a Sundaysession. The Senate voted to move forward on a House-approved bill to extend the program. (AP)

A record number of Americans are turning to auto leases as new vehicle prices climb to all-time highs. Experian Automotive found 31.46 percent of new vehicles financed in the first quarter were leased as consumers try to keep monthly payments as low as possible. (CNBC)

Heavy rain in the Northeast is forecast to continue Monday after creating pockets of flooding in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania Sunday. Thunderstorms disrupted flights and cut off energy to 10,000 homes and businesses. (NBC News)

BY THE NUMBERS
The busy week for numbers is in evidence immediately today, beginning withApril personal income and spending at 8:30 a.m. ET. Economists are looking for a 0.3 percent rise in income and a 0.2 percent increase in spending, after income was unchanged in March and spending was up 0.4 percent.
At 10 a.m. ET, the ISM Manufacturing Index is expected to come in at 51.8 for May, slightly higher than April's 51.5. April construction spending will be out at the same time, expected to show a 0.9 percent rise following March's 0.6 percent decline.

There are no earnings reports of note out before today's open, and apparel maker PVH Corp. is one of the few companies issuing its quarterly numbers after today's closing bell.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Microsoft is among our stocks to watch today, as the company announces that Windows 10 will be released on July 29. The company had previously said the updated operating system would be released "this summer."
O'Reilly Automotive announced it would add an additional $500 million to its stock buyback program, bringing the auto parts retailer's total authorization to $5.5 billion.

Nvidia said it expects its annual cloud computing revenue to reach the $1 billion mark within 2-3 years. That projection came from CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, speaking to reporters ahead of a technology trade show in Taipei.


Dollar Tree will sell 330 stores to private equity firm Sycamore partners, in order to smooth the way for regulatory approval of its planned acquisition ofFamily Dollar. Financial terms were not disclosed.
