IN THE NEWS TODAY
U.S. stock futures were searching for direction in early trading, after encouraging reports out of Greece sent the S&P 500 to a record closeTuesday. The Dow stands less than 56 points away from a new high. (CNBC)
Noble Economics Prize-winner Robert Shiller joins CNBC's "Squawk Box" at 8:30 a.m. ET to talk about what he calls the "new normal boom" in the stock market.

Greece confirms that it plans to submit a request to the euro zone today toextend a "loan agreement" for up to six months, but EU paymaster Germany says Athens must stick to the terms of its existing international bailout. (Reuters)

U.S. interest rates are also a major focus on Wall Street today, with the release of new economic data this morning and the minutes from the Fed's January policy meeting this afternoon. (CNBC)

Brent crude dropped below $62 a barrel this morning, failing to build on gains in the previous session as analysts said a recent rally was overblown. U.S.oil prices were also lower today. (Reuters)

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) increased its stake in IBM (IBM) during last year's fourth quarter, according to its latest 13-F filing. Berkshire also disclosed a 5 percent stake in Deere & Co. (DE), and the sale of its entire stake in Exxon Mobil (XOM). (CNBC)

Other 13-F filings revealed George Soros eliminated stakes in Apple (AAPL),Google (GOOG), and AIG (AIG), while increasing his position in Herbalife(HLF). Carl Icahn raised his stake in eBay (EBAY). Leon Cooperman liquidated his investment in Denbury Resources (DNR) and cut his stake inSandRidge Energy (SD). (Reuters)

Apple could sell as many as 20 million of its new smartwatches in the first year, a new research report said. Meanwhile, up to 6 million watches are said to have been ordered for the April launch. (USA Today & WSJ)

Sony (SNE) CEO Kazuo Hirai said the company aims to boost its operatingprofit 25-fold within three years by focusing on its more profitable image sensors, videogame, and entertainment businesses. (Reuters)

BlackBerry (BBRY) has revived a legal battle against a start-up co-founded by Ryan Seacrest, saying the company's add-on iPhone keyboard rips off design from BlackBerry's physical keyboards. (AP)

Mortgage rates rose to their highest level since the beginning of this year, and loan volume fell 13.2 percent last week. But total applications were still 14 percent above a year ago, when interest rates were considerably higher. (CNBC)



BY THE NUMBERS
It's a very busy day for economic reports, beginning with January data on housing starts and producer prices at 8:30 a.m. ETProducer prices are expected to decline 0.4 percent after a December drop of 0.3 percent, whilehousing starts are seen falling 1.7 percent after rising 4.4 percent the prior month.
At 9:15 a.m. ET, the Fed is out with January industrial production and capacity utilization data. Forecasts call for a 0.4 percent increase in industrial production after a 0.1 percent drop in December, while capacity utilization is seen increasing to 79.8 percent from the prior month's 97.7 percent.

At 2 p.m. ET, the Fed releases the minutes of its January policy meeting, at which central bankers did not rule out an interest rate hike this year, despite pledging continued patience in their deliberations.

Today's earnings reports include Actavis (ACT), Garmin (GRMN), Hilton Worldwide (HLT), and Hyatt Hotels (H) this morning, with Avis Budget Group(CAR), Marriott (MAR), and Six Flags (SIX) after the closing bell.

Actavis CEO Brent Saunders joins us at 7:40 a.m. ET to talk about the numbers and the Ireland-based deal to buy Botox-maker Allergan (AGN).

STOCKS TO WATCH

Caterpillar (CAT) is being investigated by authorities regarding the movement of cash among its U.S. and overseas subsidiaries. The heavy equipment maker disclosed the probe in an SEC filing.
Boston Scientific (BSX) has agreed to pay Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) $600 million to settle a long-standing lawsuit over its 2005 acquisition of Guidant.

Bank of NY Mellon (BNY) restated its fourth-quarter results to add $598 million in legal costs, reducing its per-share profit to 18 cents from the previously reported 70 cents.

Bank of America (BAC) CEO Brian Moynihan's pay was cut by 7 percent to $13 million last year, consisting of $1.5 million in base salary plus $11.5 million in stock.
